She fled her country in 1986 during the Soviet occupation, arriving in France at the age of 11. Together with Afghan and French friends, she created the association “Afghanistan Libre” in 1996 and set up a number of micro projects in the area of education and rural development that were aimed at women. In Europe and the United States, she leads various projects raising awareness about Afghanistan such as press campaigns, lobbying among companies, in politics and with institutions. She was the first female diplomat for the Afghan provisional government and was named First Secretary of the Afghan Representation to the European Union in January 2002.
